Veterans who have served our country deserve honor and recognition, even in death. The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) offers several burial benefits designed to help families with funeral costs and ensure veterans receive the dignified farewell they earned through their service.
Key benefits include burial allowances that can help cover funeral, burial, and transportation costs. All eligible veterans receive a burial flag and may receive military honors. Headstones, markers, and medallions are available at no cost, even for private cemetery burials. Service-connected death benefits may apply when a veteran dies from a service-related condition.
