Verna Brister

Verna D Brister, passed away on April 30, 2021 in Abilene. She was born June 1, 1943 in Albany, Texas to parents, Thomas and Lois Ledbetter. She graduated from Breckenridge High School.

Verna loved her family above all else. Her favorite activity was chasing her great grandson Thomas Ray around her back yard. Verna loved the outdoors, walking and hiking around God’s creation. She was a voracious reader, consuming books on her ever-present Kindle. Also, she adored her work. She entered the medical field almost 40 years ago by achieving her Certified Medical Assistant Certification through Cisco Junior College. She began working for Dr. Austin King as office manager over 30 years ago and continued working for him up to her passing. Friends, acquaintances, coworkers, and patients all attest to Verna’s limitless love and compassion for others.

She is survived by her husband, Z. L. Brister; son, Allen Lee Brister; brother, Dean Ledbetter and Wife Rebecca, brother, Floyd Ledbetter and Wife Jane; sister-in-law, Jozell Brister; sister-in-law, Wanda Ledbetter; sister-in-law, Carolyn Ledbetter; sister-in-law, Diane Ledbetter; grandson, Thomas James Brister and Wife Hayley; granddaughter, LeiSan Marie Brister; great grandson, Thomas Ray Brister; great grandson, Payton Ray Stoecker; many beloved nieces and nephews.

Verna was preceded in death by her father, Thomas Ledbetter; mother, Lois Ledbetter Fuller; son, Thomas Ray Brister; brother, Carl Ledbetter; brother, Edward Ledbetter; brother, Thomas Franklin Ledbetter

Visitation will be 5:00 – 7:00 PM, Thursday, May 6, 2021 at Elmwood Funeral Home, 5750 Hwy 277 South. Funeral will be 10:00 AM, Friday, May 7, 2021 in the Elmwood Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow the service in Elmwood Memorial Park.
