Shirlene Haley

April 1, 1950 — April 14, 2023

Shirlene Deion Martin McCormick Haley, known to many as "Angel," passed away on April 14, 2023, at the age of 73. She was a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend to many. Angel was born on April 1, 1950, and was a graduate of Muleshoe High School and Cisco Junior College, where she earned her Business Degree.


Angel worked hard throughout her life, often working two or three jobs to support her family. She was employed with the Abilene Police Department for many years, and then worked as a secretary for Throckmorton High School, Haskell High, and Abilene ISD. She spent 25 years of her career in the Abilene ISD working in the transportation department, Planetarium, One ISD center, and Clack Middle School, where she worked in clerical for their copy room before retiring. Angel was also an active member of ABWA, ATPE, and First Baptist Church of Abilene Texas.
Angel loved spending time outdoors and taking care of her family and home. She adored her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, whom she fought tooth and nail for. She had a special friend and boyfriend, Sonny Blue, whom she loved with all her heart and soul. Together they shared a special pet "Little Girl" whom Sonny has cared for since her illness.


Angel is survived by her daughter, Melissa Lea, and husband Augustine Hill of Abilene, Texas; her sons, Raymond Scott McCormick and Micheal Zachrey Haley; boyfriend, Sonny Blue; grandchildren, Jessica Quiroz and fiancé Joey Bates, Angelica Hill, Tabitha McCormick, Casey McCormick, Brandon Price, Justice Weekes, and Justin Weekes; great grandchildren, Zarron Tyler Haley, Brileigh Marie Haley, Kylie Haley, Kasey Haley, Yesenia Climaco, and one on the way; one brother, Ronny Martin; her favorite sister-in-law, Susan Martin; dear friend, Ellen Owen; and Kim Stephens of Round Rock, Texas; as well as many nieces, nephews, and friends.


Angel was preceded in death by her parents, Donn Martin, Emma Lee Cargill, and Marvin Cargill; sister, Betty Weaver, Wanda Jean Green, Dorothy Jimenez; brothers, Donn Jack and Hubert Martin.


Her wishes were to be cremated, and friends are invited to a viewing with her family at Elmwood Funeral Home, 5750 Hwy 277 South on Tuesday, April 18 from 3:00 PM - 5:00 PM. A funeral service will be held, Wednesday April 19, 2023, at 10 AM. The family will have a private burial, where Angel will be buried at Elmwood Memorial Park next to her mom.
In her memory, Psalm 23 will be read, reminding her loved ones that she is now in Heaven and has eternal life. The family wishes to extend their gratitude to Dr. Striegler and his staff for the detailed care that was given, The Oaks at Radford Hills for taking care of Angel for the last three years and Hendrick Hospice for the last month of her life. Angel will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
