Oscar Abila

Oscar Zamora Abila passed away surrounded by beloved family on November 27, 2021 at the age of 68. A visitation will be held 6:00 PM- 8:00 PM on Thursday, December 2, 2021 in the Elmwood Funeral Home Chapel, 5750 Hwy 277 South, Abilene, Texas. A funeral service will be held 11:00 AM on Friday, December 3, 2021 at Pioneer Baptist Church, 701 S. Pioneer Drive, Abilene, Texas.


Oscar was born on January 8, 1953 in Ranger Texas to his parents Eugene and Ramona Abila. He grew up in O'brien Texas and created strong ties in the communities of Ranger and Haskell during his lifetime. He married the love of his life, Leticia (Venzor) Abila on June 14, 1991. Oscar worked for Pride Pipeline for over 25 years and completed his fire fighter courses at A&M in College Station. He decided retirement wasn't for him so we went to work at Days Inn as the maintenance manager. It was during this time that he acquired the land where he made his life long dream of owning a restaurant a reality. He opened Oscar's Mexican Restaurant on November 20, 2004. He went on to open three more restaurants in Taylor County. Oscar was a friendly and loving man, but he will be most remembered for his generosity towards others.


Oscar was proceeded in death by his parents, Eugene and Ramona Abila; his sister, Carmen Abila, his brother, Mario Abila; and grandson, Brady Abila.


Oscar is survived by his wife, Leticia Abila; his step mother, Vita "Pat" Abila of Abilene, his sons and daughter in laws, Timothy and Elena Abila of Abilene, Richard and Samantha Abila of Stephenville, Roman and Marisa Abila of Abilene; daughters and son in laws, Susan Abila Ellis of Abilene, Laura and Sergio Olivares of Hobbs, New Mexico, Melissa and Keith Lewis of Abilene. His brothers and sister in laws, John and Bella Abila of Haskell, Arthur and Lisa Abila of Abilene, Benny Abila of Fort Worth; sisters and brother in laws, Eva and Nick Jimenez of Haskell, Silvia Brown of Haskell, and Lupita Abila of Abilene.


Oscar was loved by his grandchildren, Mason, Dustin, Spenser, Aaron, Traie, Javier, Carrington, Chioma, Ladasha, Ej, Lewis, Avram, Adan and one great granddaughter Braylynn. As well as Numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.


In lieu of flowers donation can be made to Love and Care Ministries of Abilene or the Salvation Army.
The family asks that everyone in attendance wear a mask.
