Nathan Craig Lewis

June 2, 1928 ~ January 7, 2021 (age 92)


Nathan Craig Lewis, 92, passed away on January 7, 2021, with his wife, Judy, keeping vigil by his side. He resided at The Woodlands in Eastland, Texas. Even though illness took him from this life, his strong Christian devotion and love of family left behind a legacy of faith for family and friends.

Craig was born on June 2, 1928, to Loy and Vada Lewis, in Memphis, Texas. He graduated from North Texas State University in Denton, Texas and taught school for 3 years. During the Korean conflict in1950, he was called to serve in the 5th Armored Division of the Army out of Fort Chaffe, Arkansas. On May, 19, 1951, Craig and Julia Ann (Judy) Barrow were married and began a long, happy life together. After discharge from the Army, they moved to Denver City, Texas, where Craig began working in personnel for Frontier Chemical which later became Vulcan Chemical. Craig continued to work for Vulcan Chemical in Wichita, Kansas, and Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Declining a transfer to New Jersey, he and Judy set off on a new career path where Craig became a securities investment agent for Church Loans and Investment Trust and Great Nation Investment Corporation. During this time they resided in Plainview and Amarillo. A devoted student of the Bible, Craig taught an adult Bible class at Central Church of Christ in Amarillo. Craig also pursued real estate opportunities in Odessa, and he and Judy worshipped at Sixth and Jackson Church of Christ. When Craig retired, he and Judy relocated to Abilene, Texas, where they were very active at Southern Hills Church of Christ and enjoyed their adult Bible classes. Craig received recognition for his faithful service to Meals on Wheels, and he and Judy were advocates for children, supporting the work of Hendrick Home for Children, Foster’s Home for Children, Lubbock Children’s Home, and St. Jude’s Hospital for children. Due to health issues Craig and Judy relocated to The Woodlands in Eastland, Texas, to be nearer to family.

Survivors include Judy Lewis, wife of 69 years, sister-in-law Jennie Barrow of Eastland, Texas, nephews, Martin Barrow and wife Martha of Mission, Texas, Tommy Barrow and wife Alice of Graford, Texas, Johnny Barrow and wife Carla of Midland, Texas, great nephews and niece, Joe Barrow and wife Melissa, of Monahans, Texas, Mike Barrow and wife Mandy of Boerne, Texas, Martin Barrow and wife Louise of Forney, Texas, Nathan Craig Barrow and wife Lucy of Forney, Texas, Brad Barrow and wife Lindy of Midland, Texas, Kelli Barrow Davis and husband, Brian Davis of Midland, Texas, and 14 great nephews and nieces.

The family wishes to express sincere gratitude to the caregivers and administration at The Woodlands Assisted Living Center and to Alpha Omega Hospice for their compassionate care and support, In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations for the care of children be made in honor of our beloved Craig Lewis.

Funeral service will be on January 13, 2021, 2:00 p.m., at Elmwood Funeral Home Chapel and interment will be at Elmwood Memorial Park in the Garden of Memories, 5750 Hwy 277 South, Abilene, Tx.
