Mickey Patrick

April 8, 1930 — December 31, 2020

On Thursday, December 31, 2020, Mickey Patrick, loving wife and mother of four children passed away at the age of 90.

Mickey was born April 8, 1930 at 91 Florida Street, Amarillo, Texas to Ancil N. Williams and Ruth Evelyn Sanford Williams.
Mickey lived in several different towns in west Texas and the Panhandle, attending 3 schools in first grade. As a preschooler learning to roller skate, her Dad told her to get both skates on or off, or she would wear out one shoe. That evening when he came home, she had both skates on. Skating became her childhood passion. She and her brother skated professionally and entertained the troupes during World War II. She also developed a love of music and dabbled in art, inspired by her artistic cousin Wayne Tarter.

She married L.D. Patrick April 23, 1946. Mickey received an Associate degree from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, graduating in 1963, then served the Lord for 41 years in the Chicago area and in Southern Illinois. Mickey was Associational WMU Director in Chicago Metro Baptist Association and Lake County Baptist Association, Illinois WMU V.P. 1973-75 and President 1976-80 and 1983-87. After returning to Texas, she served on the WMU of Texas Board 2012-16 when Sandy Wisdom Martin was Executive Director. She said, “I would desire every woman … to have opportunities I have had in WMU. Doors have opened and God has blessed me immeasurably.” She enjoyed writing and conducting religious conferences.

Mickey was preceded in death by her parents Ancil and Ruth, her sisters, Joyce Evelyn and Audrey Maxine, and her daughter Cherri (Willard Hill) and her granddaughter Stacey (David Walvoord).

She is survived by her husband L. D., brother Ancil Jr. (“Buddy”), son Mike (Nancy), and daughters Joyce (Gill Bai) and Susan (John Hill) and her grandchildren Steven, Jason, Victoria, and Jonathan, 12 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held at Elmwood Cemetery on Friday, January 8, at 2:00.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts can be made to City Light Community Ministries at First Baptist Church, 1333 N. 3rd St, Abilene, 79601 or WMU Vision Fund at WMU Foundation, 100 Missionary Ridge, Birmingham. Alabama, 35242. A service to celebrate Mickey’s life will be held at a later date.
