Mary was born on June 16, 1944 in Elmira, New York to James Wilson Vivian and Helen Elizabeth (Ahn) Vivian. She began singing and playing the piano at a young age and had a deep love for music. She loved performing in musical productions at school. She is most remembered by her high school classmates for her starring role as the character Bloody Mary in her high school's production of Rodgers and Hammerstien's musical "South Pacific". Her classmates talk about that performance to this day. She sang in her church choir all of her life and touched countless lives by sharing the gift of her beautiful singing voice. She leaves a legacy of musicality, as she passed on her love of music and performance to her children and grandchildren.
Mary was a humble servant of Jesus and lived out her deep faith for all to see. She taught Sunday School, church music, and Vacation Bible School for many years. She loved sharing God's love with others and was a mentor to many in her church.
Along with being married to her beloved, John, her greatest joy was being a mother and grandmother (Nanny). She took great pride in the lives of her children and loved watching her grandchildren grow. She attended every sporting event, concert, performance, and school award ceremony for her "grands". Even when her eyesight was failing, she insisted on being in the stands or in the audience. Her constant, unconditional love, support, encouragement, and prayers are her legacy of love that her children and grandchildren will never forget.
Mary is survived by her children, Katy Lomas and husband Jeremy, Karen Cluck and husband Randy, Christopher Hewitt; grandchildren Brady Cluck, Tyler Cluck, McKenna Cluck, Joseph Hewitt; several cousins and many dear friends.
Mary is preceded in death by her loving husband of 42 years, John; her parents, James and "Betty"; her brother, Robert (Bob); numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins; several dear friends. What a glorious reunion they had on February 3rd!
Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God. Matthew 5:9
She was, indeed, a peacemaker.
