Lucretia Dalbert

Lucretia (Chris) Lee Dalbert was born on July 13, 1937 in Rockdale, Texas. She was delivered at home by the town's midwife, who happened to be her great grandmother. She was the only child of her parents, Lovie Lee and Ethel Reed Lee.

Chris lived in Houston, TX for a few years before moving to Abilene, TX where she lived in a rooming house with two friends. She began her first job at a salon and trained to become a hairdresser. The owner told her she wouldn't make it in the profession, yet she worked for over 40 years as a beautician.

A few years later, she met her beloved husband, David Dalbert, Sr and they were married June 12, 1965. Together they loved and nurtured their four children: Kathleen, Raymond, David II, and Shawn. Her husband took care of her every need upholding their vows of through sickness and in health.

Chris was a member at Highland Church of Christ and loved attending her ladies bible class through Bible Study Fellowship. She never started a day without reading her bible. Her pride and joy were her grandchildren and great grandchildren and watching "her birds." She made sure all of her bird feeders remained full so she could enjoy them from her door. Her children have fond memories of the many vacations they took; Chris visited every state but Alaska and Hawaii.

Chris was preceded in death by her mother and father; her step father, Phillip Lee; daughter, Kathleen Merrill; and dear cousin, Mattie Pearl McBride.

Known as the matriarch of her family, she was a strong role model and the glue that held everyone together. Those left to cherish her memories include her husband, David Dalbert, Sr; sons: Raymond Dalbert, David Dalbert II and wife Kay, and Shawn Dalbert; grandchildren: Jamie Merrill, Jarred Merrill, Jazen Morgan, Terrell Lyons, Rashard Dalbert, Shayla Williams, Siovhan Dalbert, Brandon Benbow, Bethany Dalbert, and Brittany Dalbert; 16 great grandchildren, extended family and dear friends.
A visitation will be held from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm Friday, April 29, 2022 at Elmwood Funeral Home, 5750 HWY 277 South. A graveside service will be held Saturday, April 30, 2022 at Elmwood Memorial Park.

The family would like to express our sincere gratitude to everyone who has given their condolences. We have hope and assurance through our Savior that Chris was told, "Well done, good and faithful servant."
