Linda Boyd

June 28, 1944 — November 15, 2022

Linda Cooley Boyd, 78, went to be with the Lord on Monday, November 14, 2022, in Abilene, Texas.

She was born June 28, 1944 in Borger, Texas to Joe and Virginia Cooley. In 1950, with her parents and her younger brother Joe Paul, she moved to Abilene. She graduated from Abilene High School in 1962. She received her Bachelor of Education degree from Texas Christian University in 1966, and was a member of the Delta Delta Delta sorority, serving in various leadership roles throughout her time on campus. Linda continued her education at Hardin Simmons University where she earned a Masters of Education. She served her community through many years of teaching, beginning at St. John's Elementary, followed by Clyde Elementary, Austin Elementary, and finished her formal teaching career at Madison Middle School. Linda retired from teaching in 2011, and substitute taught and tutored students. Her students adored her and appreciated her wit and dry sense of humor. Linda was passionate about education and took great pride in all of her students and their successes. In addition to being an educator, she served in leadership within the Junior League of Abilene, and was a member of the inaugural class of Leadership Abilene. Most recently, she spent her time with friends in her Pensadoras study club, investment club, Bible study, and serving at Breakfast On Beech Street. She was a devoted member of First Christian Church for over 50 years, where she faithfully served in multiple capacities. Linda had a passion for travel and loved her trips to Europe and Mexico, and especially family vacations to Disney World and the beach. Linda was a beloved and faithful friend to many. Her friends loved her clever one-liners paired with her consistent thoughtfulness. She was an avid sports fan, and especially enjoyed cheering on her grandchildren and her TCU Horned Frogs. Above all, Linda loved and served the Lord and her family with all her heart. She was a wonderful daughter who faithfully cared for her mother until the age of 101. She was a devoted mother and especially cherished her role as a grandmother over the last 25 years. She consistently exhibited selflessness and always expressed her love for her family and friends through her words and actions. There will be a memorial service at 1:00 pm on Monday, November 21, 2022, at First Christian Church, 5125 Antilley Road, Abilene, Texas.
