Karen White

February 2, 1956 — October 17, 2021

Karen Jane White, 65, passed away Sunday, October 17, 2021 in Abilene, Texas. A visitation will be held 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM Thursday, October 21, 2021 at Elmwood Funeral Home, 5750 Hwy 277 South. A funeral service will be held 2:00 PM, Friday, October 22, 2021 in the Elmwood Funeral Home Chapel.
Karen was born February 2, 1956 in Abilene, Texas to Jim and Norma Simmons. She was a loving daughter, sister, mother, nawna, and friend. She loved her Lord and Savior, family, and friends with all she had and will be forever missed and cherished in our hearts. She loved going to church, her children's and grandchildren's sporting/school events, casinos, cruises, and family events. She was the type of person to give you her last dollar if she saw a need, no questions asked. She devoted her life to serving and caring for others in every aspect of her life. She briefly worked as a waitress, an APD typist and 911 operator, before beginning her career and passion with the Abilene State Supported Living Center in August of 1986. She worked as an aide and clerk before becoming a registered nurse in 1996 after graduating from McMurry University and continued her career with AbSSLC as an RN until her retirement with over 30 years of service in 2017.
Her family is sincerely thankful to all her doctors and an extra special thank you from the bottom of our hearts to Dr. Walia and the team of people at Hendrick Dialysis Center. We are thankful to the nurses at Hendrick Hospital for the care they gave our mother.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Gary Simmons; bonus grandson, Brandon; and dear friends.
Karen is survived by her children, Kimberly White and partner Karen Emery, Chris White and wife Niece, Matt White and wife Stephanie; her grandchildren, Dylon, Derek, Cody, Makenzie, Zakrey, Jonathan, Ellyona; her companion, Dickie White; her bonus children, Dickie White Jr and wife Wendy, Tina McDowell, Leeann Villanueva and husband Rigoberto; bonus grandchildren, Britany and Nickie; and three great grandchildren; her brother, Frank Simmons and wife Tracy; her fur baby, Katy; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.
