James Drury

December 27, 1957 — September 25, 2021

James R. Drury
Jim was born December 27, 1957 in Los Angeles, California. He was baptized at St Sophia Greek Orthodox Church in 1958. He left us on September 25, 2021.
Jim found a curiosity and love of nature by spending time on the family ranch in Oregon while growing up. Jim earned a degree in Environmental Studies from California State University - Sacramento. He then joined an environmental firm in Los Angeles which analyzed air, water, chemical and drill samples for companies around the globe. This led him to work with a team of chemists and scientists which broadened his scope of knowledge and increased his curiosity about nature and science. Jim was hired away by the Masry & Vititoe Law Firm for his expertise in investigations and analysis. He had many interesting adventures working there.
In 2005, following the passing of his mother, Jim moved to Texas and purchased a home in Arlington and worked for the Jim Ross Law Group. In 2006, he met his wife, Kathy, and they married in 2009 and then again in 2013 at St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church in Fort Worth after her Chrismation in the Greek Orthodox faith. He was so proud when she became "Greek". During this time, he became a licensed Real Estate Agent with the firm of Ebby Halliday. Jim remained a limited referral agent with Ebby Halliday.
His association with Ebby put him in touch with the Senter Real Estate in Abilene and the search for a retirement home began. He was anxious to bring his family to Abilene so that they could retire surrounded by his Texas family. He was very proud of being a Texan, if not by birth, by residence and marriage.
Jim was very happy in his new life in Abilene with his wife Kathy, their kitties, Frank and Harry. He loved spending time working on projects at home to make this their home both inside and out. He continued to watch services as he missed the St. Demetrios family and Father Nicholas and Presvytera Shyla.
He loved living in Abilene. He loved the big blue skies, seeing the stars at night, the beautiful sunrises and sunsets, the occasional "thunder boomers", and the clean smell of the air. He was doing what he loved, working in the yard and tinkering with tools and machines when he left us. He was proud of how he lived his "Dash".
Jim is survived by his wife, Kathy; his brother, Timothy and wife Kate of San Rafael, California; his cousins, Annamaria (Curt) Graham of Sacramento, California, and Victor (Pam) Cobos of Salem Oregon; nieces and nephews on the west coast as well as his furry buddies, Frank and Harry Drury. His father, James Drury; and mother, Cristall Drury both predeceased him. He greatly missed Carlann, his father's third wife who passed in 2019. He is also survived by his Texas family, Joe, Gail, Louise, Dianna, Benny, Johnny, Pamela, Jeremy, Shanna, Brandi, Josh, Hailee, Cody, Tyler, Lacey, and Mason as well as a host of second cousins around the State of Texas and his friends around the country.
