Hugh Moore

July 2, 1942 — January 12, 2022

Hugh Edward Moore, 79, of Abilene passed peacefully into the loving arms of our Lord and Savior on Wednesday, January 12, 2022. A celebration of his life will be held at a later date yet to be determined.

Hugh was born in Guthrie, Oklahoma on July 2, 1942 to Carl and Imogene (Gordon) Moore. He attended Guthrie Public Schools and graduated from Guthrie High School in May 1960. He received his Bachelor of Business Degree from Oklahoma State University in Stillwater, Oklahoma in January 1964.

He married Sydnye Mollenhour of Guthrie, Oklahoma on August 17, 1963 and they moved to Stillwater where he completed his education. In February, 1964 they moved to Duncan, Oklahoma where he began his career in the Oil and Gas industry with Mack Oil Company.

He served at Fort Riley, Kansas and was deployed to Viet Nam with the US Army 9th Division where he completed his service, was honorably discharged and returned home in December 1967.

They returned to Duncan and Hugh resumed his career with Mack Oil Co. and later joined the Accounting Division of Halliburton Company in Duncan. In 1975 he transferred to
Jet Research Company in Arlington, Texas, a subsidiary of Halliburton where he was the Accounting Department Manager.

They moved to Abilene, Texas in 1979 and Hugh worked for General Dynamics as Accounting Manager. He later returned to the Oil and Gas industry and ended his accounting career with Pride Refining Company.

After retirement he worked at night in the Academic Enrichment Center at McMurry University so that he could enjoy playing golf and bowling during the day. Hugh was a bowling coach for the Abilene Youth Bowling Program for several years and enjoyed sharing his love of bowling with the young people in the program. As an avid bowler Hugh and Sydnye traveled to several states for National Bowling Tournaments. They also traveled to Alaska on a cruise to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary.

He was preceded in death by his parents Carl and Imogene (Gordon) Moore of Guthrie, Oklahoma and his brother, Gordon Moore of Palm Desert, California.

Left to cherish his memories are his wife of 58 years, Sydnye Moore of Abilene, his son Christopher Moore and wife Janet, and grandchildren Makayla and Matthew Moore of Tolar, Texas. Hugh is also survived by sister and brother-in-law Nancy and Charles Waggoner, Edmond, Oklahoma; niece Kristi Rhoda and husband Christopher, Charleston, West Virginia and great-niece, Audra Waggoner of Edmond, Oklahoma.

Hugh was loved by many and will be missed by numerous bowling friends, friends from Rose Park Senior Center and St. James United Methodist Church. He loved to tease people and loved a good joke. A relative of his sister-in-law, Nancy, upon receiving word of Hugh's passing, said "the world has lost a very funny man!" One of Hugh's friends said he had a "live for joy" attitude.

A memorial service will be held at a later date. The family requests that in lieu of flowers a donation be made to Salvation Army in Abilene, Meals on Wheels or your favorite charity.
