Doris Lucille Gregory, 94, passed away Friday, April 30, 2021 in Abilene, Texas. A funeral service will be held 2:30 PM on May 3, 2021 in the Elmwood Funeral Home Chapel, 5750 Hwy 277 South. A livestream broadcast will be available at the bottom of her obituary page at www.elmwoodfuneral.com.

Doris was born February 1, 1927 to Adolph and Norma Nolte in Lockhart, Texas. She was the oldest of three children. Doris found the love of her life, Samuel Fred Gregory and the couple were married November 3, 1956. Sam was a Chief Master Sargeant in the military and spent many years as a Chaplin for the VFW. The couple were avid bowlers and enjoyed many bowling leagues. Sam was truly Doris' companion until his death on November 9, 2008. Doris had a 28-year career at Dyess Credit Union and kept the books for the Ladies Auxiliary VFW for many years. Above all Doris was a wonderful mother and grandmother. She was very loved and will be dearly missed.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Adolph and Norma Nolte; her beloved husband, Samuel Fred Gregory; and her son, Randy Lindsey.

Doris is survived by two sons, Stanley Lindsey and his wife Sandy, and Mark Gregory and his wife Ruth; her grandchildren, Karen, Charlotte, Samantha, Stephen, Shawn, Hannah, Asher, and Seth; numerous great grandchildren; and her siblings, Glenn Nolte, and Norma Jean Black.
