Danny was born June 8, 1940, in Cincinnati, Ohio to Frank and Thelma Monnig. He attended schools in Cincinnati, Ohio at the age of 18 he enlisted in the United States Air Force. He served in numerous posts including Spain, England, North Africa, Taiwan, Philippine Islands and numerous states in the Continental US. Dan served in the Vietnam War and was awarded with the Citation of Merit with 3 Oak Leaf Clusters for Exemplary service. While Danny was stationed in England he met and married his wife Wendy Kellow, they were blessed with 62 years of marriage and Dan always referred to her as his “Better Half”. Dan and Wendy had a daughter born while stationed in England and a son while stationed in Spain. After serving 22 years in the Air Force as a mechanic and an instructor on C-130s, Dan retired as a Msgt. at Dyess Air Force Base.

He then worked at Mr. Transmission, United Well Service and finally as a plant supervisor at the Abilene Professional Building. In 1995, Dan and Wendy bought land north of town and began to travel the country in their motorhome. They also flew over to England and Australia to visit their families. They enjoyed this until 2019, when they moved to the retirement community at Mesa Springs.

Dan enjoyed the travels he and Wendy had in their RV over the years. He also enjoyed building decks, walkways, and other home improvement projects at his home and for his family. A frequent phase that Dan used while doing woodwork was “close enough for government work”.

Danny is survived by his wife, Wendy; daughter, Cindy Karr of Abilene; son Michael West Monnig, wife Lisa and their children Logan, Devyn, and Grayson all of The Colony, Tx; he also leaves behind dearest friends Tina and Nikki Elkins of Eula, Tx, and Zachary and Brandi Moeller and their children Brynlee and Brystal Moeller of New Mexico.
