Alesia Smith-Brailsford, 58, passed away Thursday, September 9, 2021.

Funeral Services will be Friday, September 17, 2021 at 11:00 am at Elmwood Funeral Home Chapel, 5750 HWY 277 South, Abilene, Texas. Visitation will be prior to the service at 10:00am on Friday, September 17, 2021 at Elmwood Funeral Home

Alesia Smith-Brailsford was born in West Point, New York on August 3, 1963. She grew up in Brooklyn, NY and graduated from Clara Barton High School for Health Professions. After graduating, Alesia moved to Texas in 1983 following her mother and younger brother to Abilene, TX. She later joined the United States Military; prior service Active Army and Army Reserve for a combined total of 19 years. Alesia's excellence earned her the ranking of E-6 Staff Sergeant and she received an Army Service Ribbon. Alesia's Military Occupational Skills (MOS) were (38A) Liaison between the military and the civilian populace while in Host Nation. (71L) Administrative Specialist, (36M) Wire Systems Operator (Switch board operator), Expert (Hand Grenade) and Sharpshooter (M-16 Rifle). Alesia was honorably discharged from the United States Army Reserve in 2005 and is recognized as a Veteran of the United States Army.

Alesia was a Supervisor at Abilene State School (specialized in Mental Health Mental Retardation) for approximately 5 years. From there she worked at the French Robertson Unit (Maximum Security All Male, Close Custody) in Administrative Segregation, General population, and was promoted to Sergeant, Grievance Sergeant then Compliance Sergeant.

Alesia joined the United States Postal Service (USPS) in 2001. Throughout her career Alesia worked her way up to becoming a EAS 17 Supervisor Customer Service (specializing in compliance) in Arlington, TX and Abilene, TX. She was loved by her co-workers, superiors, as well as the customers along her routes over the years. Alesia remained with USPS for 22 years, until her untimely death.

Alesia was a sweet woman who would go out of her way to help others. She loved to watch movies. She loved her family more than anything especially her dogs.

Alesia was a Mother, Daughter, Sister, Aunt, and Friend. Her boldness, confidence, infectious laughter, winning smile, vibrant personality, and willingness to help others will leave a legacy for us to cherish. To know her was to love her. She was a giver. She gave her time, her knowledge, and a helping hand to anyone in need. She loved us.

She is Survived by her mother, Jean Elizabeth Dorsey-Jones; brother, Larry Dorsey and wife Stevi Dorsey. Her daughter, Dominique Saralyn Smith and wife Brice Broadnax; Son, Antoine Edward Brailsford and wife Ashley Brailsford; Granddaughter, Amani DaNia Bell; multiple nieces and nephews; and multiple fur babies.

She was preceded in death by her sister, Elizabeth Marie Moody.
