Wayford Young

Wayford Young also known as "Big Bubba" or "Uncle Way" was born April 25, 1934, in Clarksville, Texas to Herbert Young and Mae Susie Turner.

Funeral Service will be Tuesday, March 3, 2026 at 11:00am at King Soloman Baptist Church 1050 Minda Street, Abilene, Texas, Visitation Monday March 2, 2026 at Elmwood Memorial Park 5750 Hwy 277 South and Graveside will be a Elmwood Memorial Park.

Mr. Young served in the Army as a Chef and played on the football team. When he got out of the army at 22 yrs old, he went to work as a chef and landscaper for Andrew B. (Stormy ) Shelton and Patty Hank-Shelton for 50 plus years. He also worked as a Janitor for Mr. Shelton at Abilene Reporter News and a chef at Mack Eplen and Briarstone Manor for over 25 years.

Mr. Young also worked for Charlie and Susan Pigeon as Chef and Landscaper for many years. Their son Blake was like another family member; Mr. Young took him to school because Blake would not let his parents take him. Blake and Mr. Young went fishing together and did numerous other things for fun.

Mr. Young enjoyed helping people, fishing and hanging out at Stevenson Park with his friends, telling loud false stories for hours at a time. He also enjoyed cooking for his family and friends and then he would make fun of how much they ate.

Mr. Young survived by his loving devoted wife, Carolyn Young of 38 years. She remained by his side until sunset. Carolyn didn't miss a day or a meal while he was in the nursing home. Every single day, she was there for him. His children, Tracy Young, Shawn Young, Janet Gray, Christel Wilson, Michelle Wilson and CJ. Wilson. Siblings Monyne Asberry of Portland Oregon, Robbie Sentino of Portland Oregon and Eloise Watkins of Abilene, Texas. Grandchildren, Amy Woodard, Carlos Woodard, Herchelle Sims, Jovan Young, Hope Gray, Destiny Gary and a host of great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Proceeded in death, his parents, brothers William Young, Coy young, Rayford Young (his twin) Billy Young and Leslie Young. Sisters Arleaver Richardson, May Ruth Huff and Jo Ruth Boyce.
