Vera Ashton

Vera Lou Garcia Ashton, 91, died Monday, March 2, 2009 in Abilene. Visitation will be from 8:00 AM to 10:00 AM on Saturday, March 7th at Elmwood Funeral Home, 5750 HWY 277 South. A graveside service will follow at 1:00 PM in the Girard Cemetery in Kent County, Texas.

Mrs. Ashton was born on August 19, 1917 in Kent County. She was the widow of Apolonio Garcia. She was a homemaker while her children were growing up and later worked as a CNA at nursing homes in both Rotan and Hamlin. She was a Baptist.

Survivors inlcude three sons, Jay Garcia and wife Carol of Apache Junction, Arizona, Joe Frank Garcia and wife Alyshea of Anson, and Pete Garcia and wife Barbara of Hammond, Indiana; two daughters, Nennie Lou Ramon of Leon, Oklahoma, and Olga Castro and husband David of Austin; one sister, Ruthie Rogers of California; 23 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren.
