Terry Tacker

September 12, 1949 — September 10, 2025

Terry D. Tacker, 75, of Abilene, passed on to Heaven on Wednesday September 10, 2025. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM, Monday, September 15, 2025 at Pioneer Drive Baptist Church, 701 S. Pioneer Drive, with Dr. Jeff Reid officiating. The family will receive friends Sunday, September 14, 2025 from 4:00-6:00 pm at Elmwood Funeral Home, 5750 US-277. Terry's life was a testament to love, service, and faith, leaving an indelible mark on all who knew him.

Born September 12, 1949, to Finis and Evelyn Tacker in Abilene, where he graduated from Cooper High School in 1968 after attending Bowie Elementary and Madison Junior High. He furthered his education at McMurry University, Cisco Junior College, and Amarillo College, and throughout his life, he remained committed to learning and personal growth.

Terry was married to his best friend and the love of his life, Margie, for 46 wonderful years. As long-time members of Pioneer Drive Baptist Church, their shared life was full of joy and unconditional love.

Terry found his strength in faith and fellowship. He was also deeply involved in his community, volunteering with organizations such as the Abilene Police Department, the West Texas Fair & Rodeo, and the Western Heritage Classic. His giving spirit was evident in everything he did, from his leadership in Boy Scouts, where he earned the rank of Eagle Scout, to his passion for coaching his sons, Corey and Wesley, in youth sports. His involvement in their lives was a legacy of encouragement and love that extended beyond the field and into their hearts.

Terry's love of vintage cars, particularly his cherished 1967 Mustangs, was a reflection of his deep appreciation for their craftsmanship and history. His hobbies also included the joy of appreciating fine vehicles, a passion he shared with his family and friends.

Terry spent 24 years as a supervisor at Gooch Packing Company, where his leadership and work ethic earned him the respect of his colleagues. After the company closed, he transitioned to a long and fulfilling career with the Texas Department of Criminal Justice, where he served for 25 years before retiring in 2016.

Terry is survived by his two sons, Corey Tacker and wife Tiffany of Abilene, and Wesley Tacker and wife Melissa of The Colony, as well as his cherished grandchildren, Michaela (12) and Luke

(10), who brought him endless joy. He is also survived by his sister, Shirley Ashbrook of Round Rock, TX, and his nephew, David Ashbrook of New York. He was preceded in death by his loving wife Margie, and his parents.

Terry's family takes comfort in knowing that he has entered into the presence of the Lord, and though his physical presence will be greatly missed, his legacy of love, faith, and service will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.

Memorials may be made to Pioneer Drive Baptist Church and Rescue the Animals, SPCA.
