The family will be at 3102 Salinas. Formal visitation for family and friends will be Wednesday, July 2, 2008 from 5-7 p.m. at Elmwood Funeral Home, 5750 Hwy 277 S. Sidney was born to Sidney and Susanna Martin on April 15, 1923 in Waterloo, Ontario, Canada. Sidney married Florence Anna Weber in Guernsey Saskatchewan on June 20, 1953. After they married they resided for a short time in St. Jacobs until they responded to a calling to serve God wherever He would lead. Following graduation from Ontario Mennonite Bible Institute, Sidney became the pastor of Mill Run Mennonite Church in Altoona, PA. He served there for 14 years; while there a new church was built and many from the community became involved. Sidney also served as pastor at Perryton Mennonite Church in Perryton, TX and College View Baptist Church in Abilene. For many years Sidney served at Elmcrest Baptist Church teaching Internationals, singing in the choir, and serving as a deacon.

Though semi-retired, Sidney continued working at Acco Feeds for 30 years until the age of 80. He started a nursing home ministry visiting the elderly; he loved singing hymns with the senior citizens of Rose Park Senior Citizen Center, and remained an active member of the YMCA until recent months. Throughout his life, Sidney shared Jesus Christ with the many lives he touched. He was single-minded in his focus of loving and serving God.

Left to cherish his memory are his beloved wife, Florence; two sons, Dale Marli Martin of Bethesda, Maryland, and Duane Donna Martin of Abilene; two daughters, Elaine Charles Davis of Singapore, and Bonnie Blane Ladymon of Dallas; two granddaughters, Allison Davis and Mindy Casy Blanton; three grandsons, Stuart Martin, Ryan Martin, and Daniel Davis; great-grandson, Silas Blanton; brother, Henry Martin; and sister, Lizzie Martin. Sidney was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, four sisters; and grandson, Brice Martin Ladymon.
