Shelby Fancher

Shelby Renfrow Fancher, 81, passed away Wednesday, February 27, 2008 in Hurst, TX at a nursing center.

Visitation for family and friends will be 4:00 to 6:00 p.m., Sunday, March 2, 2008 at Elmwood Funeral Home, 5750 Hwy. 277 South. Funeral service will be 1:00 p.m., Monday, March 3, 2008 at Trinity Baptist Church, 871 Woodlawn with Rev. Kevin Kennedy officiating; interment will be in Elmwood Memorial Park, Garden of Ten Commandments with military honors.

Shelby was born on September 18, 1926 in Spur, TX to Thomas Tilden and Willie Angus Fancher. He was raised in Haskell, TX, and graduated from Stamford High School. He attended Hardin-Simmons University for 2 years. He married Lois White in 1950.

He served in the United States Army in the 37th Division, which was the most decorated
ision in Asia during WWII. He also served in the Korean Conflict where he received a Purple Heart.

He served Abilene, TX for 27 years as a police officer and retired June 30, 1981. He is a member of the Trinity Baptist Church. He was active with the Abilene Boys Club and the Abilene Boys Ranch.

He is survived by son, David Thomas Fancher and wife, Martha of Abilene; daughter, Debra Kay Goldsworthy and husband, Alan of Euless; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Lois White Fancher in 1995; three brothers Samuel, Henry and Al; and three sisters Onita, Martha and Noma.

Serving as pallbearers will be Adam Fancher, Bobby Grabeel, Keith Hill and Alan Goldsworthy.
