Sharron
Smith
Oct 30, 1943 — Sep 2, 2026
Sharron Kay Smith, beloved mother, Mimi, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on September 2, 2026.
Kay was born on October 30, 1943, in Lamesa, Texas. She graduated from Petersburg High School in Petersburg, Texas in 1962. She worked as an office manager for Tarrant County MHMR in the '70s, then transferred to Taylor County MHMR in Abilene, where she retired in 1990.
Kay lived a life filled with love, strength, and devotion to her family. She will be remembered for her willingness to help others, her beautiful spirit, and the countless ways she made those around her feel loved.
Kay was a devoted mother to Chanda and a cherished Mimi to many. Her family was the center of her world, and she was so proud of each of them and loved them all so very much.
She had a love for the simple pleasures in life-always enjoying a cold Diet Coke, a glass of sweet tea, and a trip to the casino, and she would wind down with a game of Skip-Bo in the kitchen and, of course, enjoying her cigarettes on the screened-in porch.
She leaves behind a legacy of love that will continue through her family and all those whose lives she has touched. Though she will be deeply missed, her memory will remain in our hearts forever.
She is survived by her daughter, Chanda Harris and husband Mark; her grandchildren, Cody and Kristan Harris, Hunter Harris, Ashlyn Smith, Jordan and Jacob Melton, Justin and Julie Harris; her great-grandchildren, Jaxon, Avery, Sawyer, Hagen, and Mason, with one on the way; her brother and sister-in-love, Keith and Mary Mensch; and many nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents Clem and Virginia Mensch, step-mother Ruby Mensch, her husband Larry, brother Milton Mensch and step-sisters Dean Riley, Mary Jane Porter, Peggy Lee and Patsy Thornton.
There will be a visitation Tuesday, September 8, at 10 a.m., prior to the service at 11 a.m. at Elmwood Funeral Home, 5750 US-277, Abilene, TX. She will be laid to rest in the mausoleum beside her beloved husband, Larry, where they will be together once again.
Rest peacefully, Momma. You were deeply loved, and you will be missed beyond words.
