Sharon Brooks

September 19, 1948 — April 5, 2008

Sharon Brooks went to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, April 5, 2008, after a courageous 5-year battle with cancer. Her funeral service with the Reverend David Cason officiating will be held at 3:00 PM on Tuesday, April 8th at the Broadview Baptist Church with burial following in Elmwood Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 PM on Monday in the Elmwood Funeral Home Chapel, 5750 HWY 277 South.

Sharon was born on September 19, 1948 in Haskell, Texas. She grew up in Stamford and graduated from Stamford High School in 1967. She married Earnest Brooks on December 18, 1969 and they moved to Abilene in 1970, where they raised their three children.

Sharon worked for the Abilene Independent School District-Bonham Elementary for 20 years before her illness forced her retirement in February of 2008. In those 20 years of teaching, she touched the lives of every student who passed through the resource classroom door, as well as many others. From 1975-1998, she volunteered countless hours for every activity her children participated in, including, PTA, Girl Scouts, softball and baseball. Sharon was a Baptist and attended Broadview Baptist Church in Abilene.

Sharon is survived by her husband of over 38 years, Earnest Brooks of Abilene; one daughter, Michelle Huffaker and husband, Joe Dan and their children, Noelle, Danyelle, and Jourdan all of Avoca; two sons, Michael Brooks and wife Sandy, and their children, Abagael and Madisyn, and Marc Brooks and wife Katie and their son, Andrew all of Abilene; her parents, Hazel and A.J. McClintock of Abilene; a sister, Darla Cox and husband Steve of Abilene, and their children, Chris of Abilene and Stephanie Sidwell and husband Matt of Ft. Worth; a brother, Gary McClintock of Abilene; and her Bonham family which includes many close friends.

Sharon was only on this earth for just over 59 years, but in that time she touched so many lives. She will be missed by them all: her family, her friends, and her students at Bonham Elementary.
