Scott Hassel

August 1, 1961 — September 19, 2025

Scott Hassel never met a stranger, and he never passed up the chance to share a laugh, a story, or an encouraging word. On September 19, 2025, Scott finished his race here on earth and is now swapping stories and cheering for his family and "the Longhorns" from above.

Born in Peru, Indiana to Auslin and Gene Hassel on August 1, 1961, Scott grew up as a military kid traveling the world until his family settled in Abilene, Texas in 1974. He graduated from Cooper High School in 1979, went on to Abilene Christian University, and in 1985 found his true calling when he joined FedEx. What started as a career quickly became his ministry-40 years of brightening people's days with a smile, a joke, and a genuine kindness that pointed others toward Jesus.

Scott loved deeply and lived fully. He married Denise in 1993 and together they made many memories and built a family to carry on his legacy. He was a proud member of St. Mark's Episcopal Church, a passionate fan of the Longhorns, Dallas Stars, and New York Yankees, and he shared his love of sports by coaching baseball and hockey for many years. Outdoors in any weather, wandering car shows and air shows, or whipping up his famous cheesecake for family and friends to share-Scott found joy in all of it.

Above everything, Scott's greatest love was his family. He leaves behind his wife, Denise Hassel; his sons, Zachary Jordan and Cory Ryan (and wife Cassie); grandchildren, Trey and Izzy; his dad, Auslin; brothers, Stephen (and wife Joanne) and Michael; sister, Dr. Stephanie Lynn Hassel McNeil (and husband Fred); nephew and godson, Jared Hassel; nephews, Aiden and Kellen Hassel; and many cousins.

He was welcomed into heaven by his mom, Gene Hassel, and his in-laws, Alice and Fred Garny.

Scott's life was proof that kindness matters, joy is contagious, and faith leaves a legacy. He will be deeply missed but joyfully remembered by all who were blessed to know him.
