Sara Marie Noland died peacefully after a lengthy illness May 15, 2021, in Abilene, Texas.
Born February 11, 1947, in American Falls, Idaho to Doris Knight Noland and Robert Troy Noland, Sara was the second oldest of four daughters. Following service as a Navy Chaplain in World War II, Sara's father became the pastor of Bethany Baptist Church in American Falls. The family made Oklahoma their home when Sara was four-years-old and in 1964, they moved to Canadian, Texas. Upon graduation from Canadian High School, she began working as a nurse's aide at the Abraham Nursing Home. Sara earned an associate degree in Licensed Vocational Nursing at El Centro College in Dallas, Texas. Moving to Abilene in 1984, she worked for many years at Abilene State School and was a faithful member of Pioneer Drive Baptist Church
Upon the time of her death, she had been a resident of Wisteria Place Nursing & Rehabilitation Center for many years.
Sara is preceded in death by her parents, Doris Knight Noland (1989) and Rev. Robert Troy Noland (1998); sister, Nancy Powell (2020), brother-in-law, Gerald Powell (1995) and brother-in-law, Jose Naredo (2019).
She is survived by two sisters; Jan Naredo of Abilene and Evelyn Freeman (husband, Jack) of Dallas; six nephews, two nieces, 8 grand-nephews and 7 grand-nieces.
The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to the dedicated staff at Wisteria Place for the many years of outstanding care Sara received. Wisteria was Sara's home in every way. From the nursing staff, to the therapists, as well as her fellow residents, she found support and community there. For the medical and nursing staff at Hendrick Hospice Care Center, we cannot thank you enough for your professional and kind attentive care you gave Sara in her last days. God bless you all.
A graveside service will be held 11:00 am, June 25, 2021 at Elmwood Memorial Park, 5750 Hwy 277 South. If desired, the family suggests memorials be made to Hendrick Hospice Care Center, 1651 Pine Street, Abilene, Texas 79601.
