Sandra Lou Mitchell, known as Nanaw to many, entered her heavenly residence Sunday May10th, appropriately on Mother's Day! Her Life Celebration Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. May 15th at Broadview Baptist Church. Visitation and viewing will be at Elmwood Memorial Park May 14th from 6-8 p.m.
Sandra was born June 14th 1944, to Gertie Lou Hunt and R.D. Hunter in Amhurst, TX. Sandra was jointly raised by her Grandmother Ina Hunter (Maws) and her Mother Gertie Lou Hunt (Grannie)and Stepfather Bill Hunt (Granddaddy Bill). Being a child of a blended family herself, Sandra had a big heart for family and was very willing to accept many into her family circle, somehow finding ways to make family work in this crazy world.
Sandra was raised in Merkel Tx, lived most of her life in Abilene, Tx and worked many years primarily in sales. She was a quick learner, which gave her the ability to sell anything, from commercial kitchen equipment, to advertising as an account executive for KTAB for years, to retirement living at the beginning of Wesley Court Senior Living and Sears Heritage University Place, to becoming an expert on Clinique at Dillards. Sandra's retirement job was working at Love and Care Ministries where she enjoyed helping people in need. Her life can be summed up as a life of many hard life experiences that gave her a wonderfully kind perspective that came out as deep compassion and empathy for those who were going through struggles themselves. For this reason, she will be missed by many far beyond her family, but then again, she would say they were also family. She was a long-time member of Broadview Baptist Church
Sandra is survived by her children, her son Terry Davis and wife Cheryl, her daughter Andie Spinks and husband David, stepdaughter Renee Drake and husband Bonard of Midlothian, stepson Bruce Mitchell and wife Kayla of Cedar Park, two brothers, Randy Hunt and wife Kim of Lubbock, Tx, Tracy Hunt and wife Tracy Lynn of Mabank, Tx, Grandchildren Lauren Terrell (Andrew), Holli Barbee (Jayce), Shelby Williams (Austin), Andrea Davis, and Aleah Spinks, Her Great Grandchildren which were her joy, Ripken, Hattie, Emmy, Lynlee, Lorelai, and Hunter, numerous nieces, nephews, and a host of family and friends.
Sandra was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Gere Mitchell, sister Sarah Wheeler, daughter LaDonna Davis, nephew Jason Hunt.
The family extends sincere thanks to Enhabit Home Health, Hendrick Hospice, and Dr. Trey Durdin. The family request memorials be made to Love and Care Ministries and Broadview Baptist Church.
