Ruben R.
Parras Jr.
Sep 25, 1969 — Jul 28, 2026
Ruben R. Parras Jr, 56, left his earth side home and went to be with our Lord on July 28, 2026 in Abilene, Texas.
Ruben was born in Alpine, Texas to Ruben Sr. and Rachel Parras on September 25, 1969. He graduated from Colorado High School in Colorado City, Texas. It was also in Colorado City where he met the love of his life, Melissa (Selvera) Parras and they were married on June 27, 1997.
After high school Ruben attended Angelo State University and Sul Ross State University before eventually attending and graduating from TSTC. After college Ruben went to work at FDLIC in Abilene where he was a dedicated and faithful employee for 30 years. It was there he made many friendships which were evident during his last days.
Ruben was an avid outdoorsman and loved to hunt, fish, camp and BBQ. He especially loved doing those things with his boys who are his pride and joy. When he wasn't on an adventure with his family, he could be found supporting his sons at the baseball fields or watching them perform with the Abilene Cooper Band and being a dedicated band booster. And as much as he loved his family, he also loved his Lord and Savior. He was a member of South Side Baptist Church where he and his family attended for 29 years. He was known to drive the church van on Sundays to pick up other attendees so that they too could know the love of Jesus.
To know Ruben was to know love. He had an amazing sense of humor and was always willing to joke which could be seen by his smile and the twinkle in his eyes. He took care of his family and worked to ensure that they always knew they were loved, this even extended to his extended family.
Ruben was preceded in death by his father, Ruben R. Parras Sr.; his grandparents, Salvador Hernandez and Eliza Rivera Hernandez, Francisco and Ramona Parras; his mother-in-law, Ludivina Selvera; uncles and aunts: Ruben and Susie Portillo, Rebecca and Mike Hinojos, Lupe Rodriguez, Felix Hernandez, Yolanda Marquez, Leo Lara Sr., Francisco Parras Jr. and Margarita Parras.
Ruben is survived by his loving wife of 29 years, Melissa; his sons, Ruben Rey and Aaron and wife Sidney; his mother, Rachel Miller; brothers, Richard Parras and wife Donna, Robbie Parras and wife Lana; father-in-law, Kino Selvera and wife Yolanda; brother-in-law, Nuno Selvera and wife Sonia; sisters-in-law, Angela Nelson, Tina and Chris McKinney, Sarah and Terry O'Brain and Markita and Matt Willmore. He is also survived by aunts, Sara Portillo, Eva and Al Dominguez, Virginia and Richard Belew, Irma Lara and Elva Parras; uncles, Salvador Hernandez Jr., Arturo and Rosa Rivera, Raymond Marquez and Joel Hernandez; as well as many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.
Ruben's family would like to extend a heartfelt and sincere thanks to everyone for their love, support and prayers during this difficult time. It is your outpouring of love and support that has carried us through.
We are comforted by the fact that we know we will see him again one day. "I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith." 2 Timothy 4:7
