Rose Marie Scott was born to William "Scotty" Allen Scott and Ada Mae McCamant Scott on January 15, 1928, in Anson, Texas. She was the second-born of eight children, and spent much of her youth helping raise her younger brothers and sister.
Rose graduated from Anson High School in 1945. She met Floyd Bartley Stubbs while attending Hardin Simmons University in Abilene, and they married on August 30, 1947, in Hobbs, New Mexico. They raised two children: Floyd Allan and Janet Marie.
Rose was active in the PTA, Cub Scouts, and Girl Scouts, serving the summers of 1966 and 1967 as Camp Director at Camp Boothe Oaks Girl Scout Camp in Sweetwater, Texas. She also worked part-time as bookkeeper for music teachers Jack and Mabel Burford. She worked for 25+ years for the Taylor County Health Department as the County Registrar. She had a small role in Abilene Community Theater's ZORBA THE GREEK.
In her 40's, Rose joined Toastmasters, eventually becoming its Governor of Texas. During the same time, she took dance lessons at Patty Harper Studio (20+ years). Her dance led to her winning Ms. Texas Sr. in 1999 at age 71; her talent was tap dancing. After her reign, she taught tap classes to seniors.
Rose was predeceased by her parents; husband Floyd; brothers Theron Allen Scott (Jimmie Ruth), Lloyd Osborne Scott (Barbara Sue McCoy), Robert Emmett Scott (Barbara Nida Allen), Harris Roy Scott, Frank Russell Scott (Christine Bradley), and Mack William Scott (Betty Jones).
She is survived by son Floyd Allan Stubbs (Sue) of Cloudcroft, New Mexico; daughter Janet Marie Stubbs of Abilene; grandsons Brian Meyerdirk and Cameron McColl (Caitlin), and great-grandsons Cade and Connelly McColl, all of Austin; sister Margaret Scott of Amarillo; sisters-in-law Donna Scott, and Pat Stubbs, both of Amarillo, sister-in-law Geneva Scott of Lubbock; and many nieces and nephews.
The family would like to express heartfelt thanks for the excellent care provided by Brookdale North and St. David's Hospice of Austin, Merkel Nursing Center, and Alpha-Omega Hospice of Abilene.
