Rolland Lee Rose Sr., 93, passed away peacefully on August 31, 2026.

Rolland was born on February 28, 1933, in Old Glory, Texas, to Joseph and Ethel Rose, who were peanut farmers. He was raised in Old Glory and graduated from Old Glory High School in 1951.

Rolland was the youngest of six children. His siblings included his sisters, Wanita and Joy, and his brothers, Wendall, Truett, and his twin brother, Nolland, who died of pneumonia when he was approximately one year old. Rolland's parents and all his brothers and sisters preceded him in death.

After graduating from high school, Rolland was drafted into the United States Army and served his country during the Korean War. Following two years of military service, he returned home to begin the next chapter of his life.

Rolland met Peggy Shelley on the town square in Rule, Texas. They fell in love and were married on December 24, 1955, in Haskell, Texas. Together, Rolland and Peggy built a loving home and welcomed two children, Kathy JoAnn Brown and Rolland Lee Rose Jr. The family lived in Rule and Kansas City before making their permanent home in Abilene, Texas. Rolland and Peggy shared nearly 38 years of marriage before her death in August 1993.

For most of his working years, Rolland managed full-service filling stations. One of those was the Chevron station on North First Street in Abilene, which featured a car wash-something new and exciting in those days. Rolland was a hardworking man who took pride in providing for his family and serving his customers well.

Rolland enjoyed playing bingo and trying his luck with scratch-off tickets. He played many bingo games through the years at the VFW and the Reman Lodge in Tye, Texas. Those gatherings brought him great enjoyment and gave him the opportunity to spend time with friends.

In September 1994, Rolland met his best friend and devoted companion, Myrtle Morren. For the next 32 years, they shared a remarkable life together. Neither wanted to be separated from the other, and they found the kind of love, friendship, and companionship that many people never experience in the second half of life. Their relationship was a true blessing to them both.

Rolland was a quiet man of faith. He was a Christian who loved the Lord and was a member of Pioneer Drive Baptist Church. He was always quick to give "the Good Lord" credit for the blessings and care he received throughout his life. His faith was not loud or showy, but it was sincere, steady, and deeply rooted.

Rolland is survived by his devoted companion, Myrtle Morren; his son, Rolland Lee Rose Jr. and wife Lisa; and his son-in-law, Johnny Brown and wife Helen. He is also survived by his granddaughters, Krist Newton and Shelley Brown; grandsons, Nathan Rose and wife Kim, and Travis Rose and wife Kayli; great-grandchildren, Katherine and husband Conrad Henry II, Louis Newton, Patterson and husband Dillon Freasier, Alex Newton, Ryder Rose, Holten Rose, Kynley Rose, Taylor Rose, Tucker Rose, and Tegan Rose; and great-great-grandchildren, Stoney Freasier, Harper Freasier, and Conrad Henry III.

Rolland will be remembered as a devoted family man, a proud veteran, a faithful friend, and a humble Christian. His long life was marked by hard work, loyalty, quiet strength, and gratitude to the Lord. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

A graveside service will be held at noon on Friday, September 4, 2026, at Elmwood Memorial Park in Abilene. Family friend and pastor Greg O. Rake will officiate.
