Robert Stanley Rose

March 17, 1948 — May 23, 2026

Robert Stanley (Stan) Rose, age 78, of Wylie, Texas passed away on May 23, 2026. He was born to John Robert and Georgie Stalcup Rose on March 17,1948 in Whittier, CA.

He spent his youth growing up in Liberal, Kansas where his favorite place to be was his grandparents' farm. This is where his love for wheat fields and windmills were forever instilled on his heart and mind. During his teenage years, the family moved to Abilene, Texas and he graduated from Abilene Christian High School where he played basketball, was in band, and participated in other civic clubs. He also attended Abilene Christian College. As an adult, he developed a career in various managerial and salesperson positions. He owned and operated a furniture and appliance business in Hereford, TX for many years, then returned to Abilene where he was employed by Montgomery Ward and eventually retired from Havertys Furniture after a 30+ year career at the Abilene and Frisco, TX stores. He attended University Church of Christ in Abilene, Wylie Church of Christ and Greenville Oaks Church of Christ.

Stan was known for his astute salesmanship, but two things he didn't have to "sell" you on was his great pride for his family- especially his grandchildren and his lifelong compassion for anything and everything basketball. He made certain everyone knew that his loyalty belonged to the KU Jayhawks and that the month of March only existed for collegiate basketball games and tournament brackets and not for celebrating his birthday which fell on that ever popular March Irish holiday. His other hobbies included writing poetry, singing and planting bountiful vegetable gardens.

In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by his beloved sister, Joella Taylor and her husband, Stanley Taylor.

He is survived by his children, Sara and husband Phillip Gore of Ash, NC, Spencer and wife Kristi Rose of Wylie, TX, and Shannon Rose Sigle of San Antonio, TX. His sister, Lynn whom he fondly called "Speck" and her husband Don Smith of Farmersville, TX. His grandchildren Samuel, Seth, Laynee and Lucas Rose, Judge Sigle, Brosnan and Sara Gore. He will also be remembered by his loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
