Rama Magers

October 3, 1929 — December 4, 2021

Born October 3, 1929, in Electra, Texas, to parents Arthur Glenn Stanford and Ronnie Emily Smith Stanford. She grew up in Electra, graduating Electra High School in 1947. She married James Blanton Magers June 14, 1947. Rama and J. B. moved ten times while he worked on a drilling rig. They finally landed in southeastern New Mexico in 1956, first at an oilfield camp at Buckeye then, to Lovington in 1960. Rama took two years of college and then began her career at Lovington Abstract, Atlantic Richfield, Gordon M. Cone Oil Company, and then retired from Atlantic Richfield in 1985. When J. B. retired, they moved back to Electra in 1990 to care for her mother, after the death of her father.


Rama's passion was her family and praising Jesus through singing, touching so many lives through song. She enjoyed sewing, making clothes for her and her children. She was a master quilter, as well as enjoying many other craft activities.


Rama is survived by her husband of over 74 years, J. B.; sons, Dennis Michael (Jody) and James Patrick (Lynne); and daughter Jeannie Sue Wesley. She is also survived by grandchildren Allyson Magers (Jeremy), Molly Price (Ryan), Darren Jones, Shannon Thulin (Chris), Annie Hunt (Jeremy), and Lindsey Magers, and has great grandchildren Matthew and Hallie Price, Riley and Elliott Thulin, Hattie and Georgia Hunt, and Josiah Magers.


She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Otis Glenn Stanford, Raymond Ogden Stanford, and Luther Dean Stanford; grandchildren, Cody Dean Jones and Aaron Don Jones; and son in law, Dennis Wesley. She was also preceded in death by longtime friends, Shell Anderson, her piano player, Shorty Price, Evelyn Browning, Velma Ballard, and so many other cherished friends and extended family.


A visitation will be from 10:00 AM - 11:00 AM, Wednesday, December 8, 2021 in the Elmwood Funeral Home Chapel, 5750 Hwy 277 South, Abilene, Texas. A celebration of life will begin at 1:00 PM, Wednesday, December 8, 2021 in the Elmwood Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow in Elmwood Memorial Park.
