Pete Hererra, 53, passed away on Friday, June 5, 2026, in Abilene, Texas. A visitation will be held from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM on Tuesday, June 9, 2026, in the Elmwood Funeral Home Chapel, 5750 Highway 277 South. Funeral services will follow immediately at 2:00 PM.
Pete was born on November 1, 1972, in Vernon, Texas, to Olga and Lupe Hererra Sr. He was raised in Crowell, Texas, where he attended school and graduated from high school. Pete was a devoted sports fan who proudly cheered for the Notre Dame Fighting Irish and never missed an opportunity to tease Dallas Cowboys fans. He also enjoyed following the Atlanta Braves and the Texas Rangers. Whether watching a game or catching the latest movie, Pete found joy in life's simple pleasures.
Pete had a gift for making friends wherever he went. He never met a stranger, and once someone became his friend, they remained his friend for life. His warm personality, quick wit, and loyal heart left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him.
Above all else, Pete loved his family. Known affectionately as "Paw Paw Pete" and "Uncle Pete," he cherished every moment spent with those he loved. His family was his greatest joy, his proudest accomplishment, and his favorite pastime. He treasured gatherings, celebrations, and the everyday moments that brought his loved ones together.
He is preceded in death by his father, Lupe Hererra Sr.
Pete is survived by his children, Eric Hererra and wife Kassidy, Mark Hererra, and Emma Hererra; his grandchildren, Emery Vincent, and Hudson Hererra; his mother, Olga Hererra; his siblings, Lupe Hererra Jr. and wife Tiffni, Sue Ann Hererra, and Kathy Finley and husband Michael; several nieces and nephews that he loved dearly; and numerous other family members and friends.
Pete will be remembered for his kindness, loyalty, sense of humor, and unwavering love for his family. His memory will live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know him.
