Noemi Castillo, a cherished mother, grandmother and friend, passed away on May 8, 2026, in Abilene at the age of 93. Born on September 4, 1932, Noemi lived a life rich with faith, love, resilience, and an unwavering commitment to her faith, family and community.
Noemi was known for her warm spirit, strong character, and generous heart. Noemi lived by the belief of putting God first and family second, and she demonstrated those values daily through her kindness, service, and love for others.
Noemi was deeply devoted to her church family at Graham Street Church of Christ, where she faithfully worshiped and served for many years. Her servant's heart extended into the community through her longtime volunteer work with Christian Services Center, where she lovingly gave her time helping those in need.
She found great joy in caring for her family, especially her grandchildren, whom she loved dearly and nurtured with patience, wisdom, and unconditional love. Noemi was an avid gardener with a remarkable green thumb, and she took pride in creating beauty through her flowers and plants. Her home was a place of comfort, laughter, faith, and togetherness, where everyone was welcomed with love.
She is lovingly survived by her children, Ruben Castillo (Debbie), Elizabeth Velasquez (Joshua), David Castillo, Berta Brown (Derek), and Abel Castillo (Melissa); her cherished grandchildren, Jennifer, Leah, Ruben James, Lauren, Nathaniel, David, Jonathan, and Brysa; 8 great-grandchildren; 7 great-great-grandchildren; as well as her siblings, many nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
Noemi was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Sostenes Castillo; her daughter, Blanca; her parents, Marcelino and Juanita Ramirez; and her brothers, Juan and Ruben.
During this time of mourning, the family encourages friends and loved ones to share memories and stories honoring the incredible woman Noemi was and the love she shared so generously. Though she will be deeply missed, her legacy of faith, strength, compassion, and devotion to family will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
