Nicolasa Casas

Nicolasa “Nico” Casas, 87, of Abilene, TX passed away Tuesday, December 7, 2021, in Abilene, TX.

A funeral service will be held Thursday, December 9, 2021, at 1:00 PM at St Francis Catholic Church. Interment will follow at the Texas State Veterans Cemetery at Abilene. A visitation will be held on Wednesday, December 8, 2021, at 6:00 PM with a rosary following at 7:00 PM at Elmwood Funeral Home Chapel.

Nico was born on July 22, 1934, in Raymondville, TX to the late Teodoso Villarreal and Maria Louisa Zepeda Villarreal. She married Esteban Saldana Casas on April 29, 1960. Nico enjoyed embroidery, was known as a very good cook, and enjoyed traveling. She also enjoyed gardening but her real passion was her family. Nico was a mother to many including extended family and friends who needed a loving home. She was a member of St. Frances Catholic Church, was the rock of the family and will be dearly missed.

Nico is survived by her loving husband of 61 years, Esteban Casas; daughters, Elda Salinas and husband JR, Nellie Clark, Eliza Moreno, Rachel Escobedo, and husband Isaac; grandchildren, Veronica Salinas-Shurme, Victoria Lobusta, Matthew Clark, Gabrielle Clark, Selena Flores; great grandchildren, Braylon Shurme, Brooklyn Shurme, Burkleigh Flores, Wrenly Flores; numerous extended family and friends.

Nico was also preceded in death by sisters, Amelia Medina, Lydia Arredondo, Paula Villarreal; brothers, Francisco Villarreal, Alfredo Villarreal, Moses DeLeon, and Primitivo DeLeon.
