Visitation will be held Tuesday, September 23,2025 from 5:00-7:00 PM, and the Funeral service will take place Wednesday 24, 2025 at 10:00 am at Elmwood Funeral Home Chapel.

Michael was born to B. L. McGrew and Donnas Fern McGrew on October 9, 1954, at Hendrick Memorial Hospital in Abilene, TX. He attended Travis Elementary, Jefferson Junior High, and Cooper High School. Mike quit Cooper High School mid-semester of his senior year to marry the love of his life, Sherree Ann Price of Abilene, Texas on February 24, 1973. Several years later, they had two sons, Jason Michael McGrew and Justin B. L. McGrew.

In 1974, Mike attended Cisco Jr. College LVN nursing program at West Texas Medical Center in a one room class and obtained his LVN license. Mike went to work at Shady Oaks Nursing home where he worked until the age of 26 years. He then went to work as Abilene Emergency Medical Services as a paramedic. In 1982, he quit and became a police officer for the Abilene Police Department. He retired 30 years later due to health problems. Mike absolutely loved nursing and policing. His nursing benefitted his police service on multiple occasions.

Mike worked many different jobs during his life, such as roughnecking with his dad in the oilfields. Sometimes, Mike and his brother, Billy, would work on the drilling rig at the same time as their dad. He also worked various jobs at Timex, in restaurants, at Pride, and in a meat processing plant.

While at the police department, Mike earned the Medal of Honor, Police Commendation, and two Community awards.

Mike is predeceased in death by his parents, B. L. and Donnas McGrew, his wife, Sherree McGrew, and his son, Jason McGrew. He is survived by his son, Justin McGrew ,brothers, Billy McGrew and Larry McGrew, as well as 3 grandchildren Tyler, Cheyenne, and Rhiannon.

One time while on police duty, Mike was meeting his wife for lunch at The Cotton Patch, where he saw a man with his head down. He went to check on him and found him to be unconscious. Realizing the man was having a heart attack, he and his wife, Sherree, started CPR. The man was transported to the hospital and survived. Mike said that Sherree never forgave him because he did chest compressions while she had to do mouth to mouth.

Mike enjoyed working with everyone at the Abilene Police Department, but some officers he spoke about were Assistant Chief, Ron Harris, Lieutenant Randy Smith, Lieutenant Craig Fullerton, Steve Rogers, Mike Janusz, Carl Miglorie, Jerry Scott, Mark Watson, Mike Smith, Chief Martin, and of course, all of the dispatchers who probably saved his life more than he can imagine.
