Mary Rivas, 61, of Abilene, Texas, passed away peacefully on Monday, May 5, 2025. A visitation will be held from 10:00 to 11:00 AM on Wednesday, May 14, 2025, at Elmwood Funeral Home Chapel, located at 5750 Hwy 277 South. A funeral service will follow immediately at 11:00 AM.
Mary was born on March 22, 1964, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to Earnest Pruitt and Mary Sicalides. During her childhood, her family relocated to Palo Pinto, Texas, where she spent much of her youth. As the eldest sibling, Mary naturally took on a caregiving role, helping to raise her younger brother and sisters with love and responsibility.
With a deep commitment to helping others, Mary dedicated over 30 years of her life working as a Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN), making a meaningful difference in the lives of countless patients and their families.
Outside of her career, Mary found joy in simple pleasures. She loved collecting dolls, shopping for treasures on eBay, and creating intricate shadow boxes featuring miniature figurines. Her creativity and eye for detail were reflected in every project she touched.
Known for her generosity and compassion, Mary never hesitated to help anyone in need. Above all else, she loved her family fiercely and would do anything for them.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Earnest Pruitt and Mary Sicalides; her sister, Cathy Almanza; and her daughter Maria Rivas.
Mary is survived by her husband, Manuel Rivas; her children, Victor Rivas, Michael Rivas and wife Dominque, Christopher Rivas and wife Krysta, and Candida Ayala and husband Alfonso; 11 grandchildren, four siblings, Ann Johnson, Pauline Howell, Helena Martinez, Jimmy Pruitt; and numerous other family members and friends.
Mary’s presence will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
