Maria Zertuche

Maria Estela Zertuche, 75, of Abilene, TX passed away Saturday, March 5, 2022, in Abilene, TX.

A visitation will be held Tuesday, March 8, 2022, at 6:00 PM with a rosary following from 7:00 to 8:00 PM at Elmwood Funeral Home Chapel, 5750 US HWY 277 S., Abilene, TX 79606. A funeral service will be held Wednesday, March 9, 2022, at 10:00 AM at St. Francis Catholic Church.

Estela was born on February 27, 1947, in Melchor Muzquiz, Coahuila, Mexico to the late Gilberto Espinoza and Florencia Alcala. She married Jose Maria Zertuche on October 31, 1970, in Muzquiz. They were blessed with 4 children, Alex, Monica, Manuel, and Mary. She devoted her time to building a loving home for her family. Estela was also a woman of deep faith and devotion to the Lord. She was a 45-year faithful member to St. Francis Catholic Church where she was one of the founders and past president of the Society of Guadalupanas. Estela also participated in the Cursillistas and funeral ministry. She went on many pilgrimages to the surrounding states to deepen her conviction as a Catholic. She enjoyed traveling and experiencing different cultures including recent trips to Mexico, Cuba, Honduras, Bahamas, and Belize. Her true love was her family and grandchildren, she will be dearly missed, and her love will be carried in their hearts.

Estela is survived by her husband of 51 years, Jose Maria Zertuche; her children, Alex Zertuche and wife Ruby, Monica Ubillus and husband Christian, Manuel Zertuche and wife Lisa Smith, Mary Zertuche-Flores, and husband Joe; grandchildren, Isela Zertuche, Diego Zertuche, Sebastian Ubillus, Olivia Ubillus, Daniel Zertuche, Marissa Zertuche and Javier Flores; brother, Jesus Barrientos, and wife Ruth; dear friend and travel companion, Melinda Stone and longtime dear friend, Amparo Allelo; extended family and dear friends.
