Margarita Valdez

Margarita A. Valdez, 96, passed away on Wednesday, January 2, 2008 at a local care center.

Visitation for family and friends and a time for sharing and celebrating Margaritas life will be Friday, January 4, 2008, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Elmwood Funeral Home Chapel, 5750 Hwy 277 South. Funeral Service will be held 10:00 a.m., Saturday, at Elmwood Funeral Home Chapel with Chaplain Luis Valdez officiating; interment will follow in Elmwood Memorial Park under the direction of Elmwood Funeral Home.

Margarita was born in Moran, Texas on May 1, 1911 to Ignacio and Mary Reyes Martinez Alcala. She married Elias Valdez and together they raised 10 children and a granddaughter. In the early 40s she became a member of the Assembly of God Church and served for many years as the president of the womens ministry of the Wichita Falls section. After moving to Abilene she became active working with the elderly in the community.

She is survived by six sons, Ignacio Valdez and wife, Lupe, Jesse Valdez, Pete Valdez, Miguel Valdez and wife, Mary, Luis Valdez and wife, Tessie, and Daniel Valdez and wife, Esther; three daughters, Petra Gonzalez and husband, Benito, Esther Ballew and Mary Baker and husband, Boyce; granddaughter, Sylvia Valdez and husband, Juan; sister, Aurora Flores and husband, Luis; 36 grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren and a few great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Elias Valdez in 1989, two daughters, Angelica Valdez infant, and Pauline Silva; daughter-in-law, Petranila Valdez; son-in-law, Raul Silva; two grandchildren, Janet Valdez and David Valdez; and two great-grandchildren, Jeremy Gonzalez and Erin Garcia.
