Marcin Andrzej Niebelski, lovingly known as “Marty,” passed away on April 28, 2025, in Abilene, Texas, at the age of 48. He leaves behind a legacy of laughter, devotion, and deep love for his family and community. A time of visitation will be 12:00 PM – 2:00 PM, on Monday, May 5, 2025 at Elmwood Funeral Home, 5750 Hwy 277 South. A celebration of life will begin at 2:00 PM following the visitation in the Elmwood Funeral Home Chapel.
Marty was born on April 21, 1977, in Poland to his parents, Andrzej Niebelski and Jadwiga Niebelska. At the age of 11, he and his family moved to New Jersey in pursuit of new opportunities. A few years later, the family relocated to Abilene, Texas, when his father accepted a position as a pediatrician—a move that would help shape Marty’s life and path forward.
A determined and curious learner, Marty attended Purdue University and later Hardin-Simmons University. He went on to make his mark as a business owner, running the Wingate by Wyndham hotel in Abilene from 2008 to 2017. His work ethic and friendly spirit made him well known and well liked in the community. Later, he served with strength and integrity as a correctional officer at the Robinson Unit from 2019 to 2022.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Marty was a man of vibrant passions and a playful heart. He was a lifelong fan of The Godfather films, often quoting lines and admiring the themes of loyalty and family. He had a sharp sense of humor and was known for pulling light-hearted pranks on those he loved. Marty had a deep appreciation for music, especially rap and reggae, and stayed up to date with the latest in technology. A self-proclaimed peanut butter fanatic, he was rarely seen without a jar nearby.
He was an avid supporter of the Dallas Cowboys and never missed a WWE wrestling match. But above all else, Marty cherished his family—especially his children, who were his pride, his joy, and his greatest purpose.
He is preceded in death by his father, Andrzej Niebelski.
Marty is survived by his children, Hanna Niebelski, and Andrew Niebelski; his fiancé, Mary Richardson; his stepchildren, Kalli, Kason, Kaleb, Kathleen, and Karter; the mother of his children, Jennifer Thompson and husband Trey; his mother, Jadwiga Niebelska; and numerous other family members and friends.
Marty will be remembered for his humor, his loyalty, and his generous spirit. He touched the lives of many and will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. He reminds us of what The Godfather taught best: “Great men are not born great, they grow great.”
