Manuela Ortega

Manuela Nellie Ortega, 90, was called home to be with her Lord and Savior Saturday October 25, 2008. Her funeral service will be 11:00 AM, Wednesday October, 29th at St Vincent Pallotti Catholic Church, 2525 Westview Drive. Visitation will be Tuesday October 28th from 5:00 to 7:00 PM with a Rosary service beginning at 7:00 PM at Elmwood Funeral Home, 5750 Hwy 277 South.

Manuela was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great great-grandmother and friend to all of her family. The most important relationship in her life was with her Lord. She loved to spend her time working for the church and helping others feel the love of God. Manuela grew up in DHinis, TX were she met and married Genobebo Joe Ortega in 1940. They moved to Abilene with their family in 1970 were she began attending St Vincent Pallotti Catholic Church and later St Francis Catholic Church. She will be greatly missed by all her family and friends, especially her little dog Julio.

Manuela is survived by her children Leo Ortega of Amarillo, Paulo Ortega and wife Mary Jane of Amarillo, Candy Torres and husband Benjamin of Abilene, Betty Valdez and husband Rudy of San Antonio, Julia Samora of Ft. Worth, Yolanda Leisure and husband Ron of Abilene, Maria Orozco and husband Jesus of Abilene, Armando Ortega and wife Linda of Abilene, and Francis Ortega and husband Victor Battle of Ft. Worth,; thirty-nine grandchildren; one-hundred forty-six great- grandchildren; and twenty-eight great great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and friends.

Manuela was preceded in death by her husband, Genobebo; three sons, Magdaleno Ortega, Michael De La Cruz, and Charles Edward Knox Jr.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial donations be made to St. Vincent Pallotti Catholic Church, 2525 Westview Drive, Abilene, TX 79603.
