Lucille Townsley, 86, passed away Thursday, January 3, 2008. Her funeral service will be held at the Woodlawn Church of Christ, at 2:00 PM, Saturday, January 5, 2008 with burial following in Elmwood Memorial Park under the direction of Elmwood Funeral Home, 5750 HWY 277 South.
Lucille was born on March 11, 1921 in Valera, Texas, the third daughter of Henry and Stella Dennis and was a 1941 graduate of Coleman High School.
Lucille married V.A. Townsley on May 23, 1941 in Coleman County, TX. They left Coleman County around 1942, and took up farming in Merkel until 1946, when they left the farm for a move into Abilene where she became active in the PTA program at the elementary school her children attended, and was a scoutmaster for the Cub Scouts. She continued to be active in all her childrens activities throughout their school years.
She worked in the retail business from 1957 until 1970 when she went to work in a production plant until her retirement in 1985. After her retirement she participated in volunteer work at a local hospital and helped care for the shut-ins and the elderly of our community.
Lucille was baptized in a creek near Cross Roads, TX in her early teens and has been a member of The Woodlawn Church of Christ since 1958, where she taught Sunday School when she was able. A devout Christian her entire life, she served her Lord faithfully and looked forward to going home. We mourn her passing, but celebrate her life.
She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Rex and Jennifer Townsley of Abilene; three grandchildren, Michelle Shoecraft, Ricky Townsley, and Joe Townsley, all of Ft. Worth; and several great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by; one son Joe Bob Townsley; Her husband V.A. Townsley; and three sisters Inez Morgan, Emma West, Gladys Hughes.
