Lucille Gray

June 5, 1933 — July 13, 2023

Lucille R. Gray, a faithful servant of Christ, peacefully entered into eternal rest on Thursday, July 13,2023, in Coppers Cove, Texas, at the age of 90. Born on June 5, 1933, to Jacob and Buelah Ply, Lucille's life was a testament to her unwavering devotion to God, her family, and her community.

Lucille began her earthly journey in Lovington, New Mexico, where she attended Lovington High School. Her formative years were marked by resilience and hard work, as her family labored as sharecroppers and she herself diligently picked cotton during her childhood. These experiences instilled in her a deep appreciation for the blessings bestowed upon her and a profound understanding of the importance of faith and perseverance.

In 1957, Lucille joined in holy matrimony with Bobby Gray, a union blessed with the love and companionship that would endure a lifetime. Together, they embarked on a journey of love, commitment, and shared values.

A dedicated member of the Westgate Church of Christ, Lucille found solace and strength in her relationship with her Savior. Her steadfast faith guided her every step, offering her comfort, wisdom, and a sense of purpose. Lucille's involvement in her church community allowed her to extend her love, compassion, and unwavering support to others.

Throughout her life, Lucille resided in Abilene, Texas, establishing deep roots within the community she called home. The Air Force brought Lucille and Bobby to Abilene, where they would create a life filled with cherished memories, lifelong friendships, and a profound impact on the lives of those around them.

Lucille was the youngest of thirteen beloved siblings and, with her passing, the last surviving member of her cherished family. Lucille possessed a gentle and caring spirit, finding joy in the simple pleasures of life. One of her greatest delights was feeding the birds, a reflection of her nurturing and compassionate nature. Lucille proudly carried the legacy of an Aggie from Texas A&M University.

Lucille now rejoins her parents, Jacob and Buelah Ply, and her dear son, Jeff Gray, who have gone before her to their eternal home. Though their absence weighs heavily on our hearts, we take solace in knowing that they are reunited in the arms of our Heavenly Father.

Lucille leaves behind a lasting legacy of faith, love, and devotion. She is survived by her beloved son, John Gray, and his wife Jane, who provided steadfast love and support throughout her journey. Additionally, Lucille is survived by six cherished grandchildren, who will forever carry her spirit within their hearts. She also leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, and other family members, all of whom have been touched by her grace and love.
