Louie Patrick

June 13, 1928 — January 22, 2022

On Saturday, January 22, 2022, Louie Dan (L.D.) Patrick, loving husband and father of four children, passed away at the age of 93. L.D. was born June 13, 1928, in Eldorado, Oklahoma, to George and Rubye Patrick.

L.D. moved to Amarillo, Texas, around 1940. Due to his athletic skill and the school's need for a quality baseball player, the school moved him up to the ninth grade a year early so that he could play baseball with the high school boys. As a young man, he played semi-professional fastpitch softball and later coached boy's baseball at his church.

He married Mickey Ruth Williams on April 23, 1946, and they were together until her passing in 2020, just shy of their 75th wedding anniversary. L.D. and Mickey loved their family and prayed daily for their children, grandchildren and extended family.
L.D. delivered ice, sold frozen food, and worked in the trucking industry until he was called to the ministry in 1960. He and Mickey attended Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, graduating in 1963. While in seminary, he was pastor of Bono Baptist Church. Later, he liked to quip that he was a "Bonofied" preacher.

He served the Lord for 41 years in Illinois, first as a home missionary at Wood Dale Baptist Church, then pastor of churches in Fairfield and Waukegan, before serving as Director of Missions in Lake and Madison Counties. He then moved to Springfield where he was a church planter and consultant for the Illinois Baptist State Association. L.D. and Mickey were known as "Mr. & Mrs. Missions" in Illinois. He continued to preach after retirement when he moved to Abilene, Texas, in 2004.

L.D. was preceded in death by his wife, Mickey, parents George and Rubye (Paden), his siblings, Earl (Fern), John (Millie), Melba Goss (Arthur) and Ruby Mae Wedel (Frank) and his daughter Cherri (Willard Hill) and his granddaughter Stacey (David Walvoord). He is survived by his son Mike (Nancy Smith), and daughters Joyce (Gill Bai) and Susan (John Hill) and his grandchildren Steven, Jason, Victoria, and Jonathan, 12 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren.
