Laura Brown

Laura Rupe Brown, 93, died Friday, March 7, 2008 in Abilene. A memorial service celebrating her life will be held at 3:00 PM on Saturday, March 22 in the multi-purpose room at Royal Estates, 6565 Central Park Blvd. Arrangements are with Elmwood Funeral Home, 5750 HWY 277 South, Abilene, Texas 79606

Mrs. Brown was born in Stanton on May 26, 1914 the daughter of John G. Rupe and Lena L. Houck. She grew up in Cisco, where as a young lady, she won several beauty and dancing contests in the Cisco area including Fourth of July Queen. She graduated from Cisco High School and later worked as a reporter for the Cisco Daily News. She married Edward Austin Brown on February 23, 1938 and lived in numerous places as her husband managed hotels throughout Texas. After retirement, the Browns enjoyed traveling all over the United States. She was an avid reader, enjoyed crossword puzzles and was a Presbyterian. Laura dedicated her life to her family and their well being, she will be missed.

Survivors include her children, Edward Austin Buster Brown III and wife Nancy of McAllen, Judith Margaret Brown Herron and husband Bill of Odessa, Betty Brown Davis and husband John R. of Abilene; she was a Precious Mee Maw to 9 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren and 7 great great grandchildren. She is also mourned by two nieces and a nephew and their families.

Her parents, two brothers and three sisters preceded her in death.
