Kiman Touch, age74, passed away peacefully at home with her daughter on Monday, Nov. 13, 2023. She was born on March 03, 1949 in Kampong Thom Province, Cambodia the fourth child of Chhung Touch and Vang Min. She was married to Samang Huong in 1971 and he preceded her in death on March 18, 2016, the same day as his son-in-law George Kim's father, Kim Ty. Together they raised 5 children: Piseth Huong, Pisal Huong, Sodeth Huong, Sokol Anna Huong Kim, and Hengputhea Huong.
She lived through the Khmer Rouge genocide from 1975 - 1979. She lost her mother, 2 brothers, 1 sister in the violence of the Khmer Rouge after the Cambodian Civil War. Tragically, her son, Piseth and her daughter, Pisal, died in 1990 after their ship sunk in a storm on an oceanside journey to Australia.
She was a dedicated homemaker and a very talented cook. She made all of their clothes, even their socks, for her whole family. She and her daughter, Sokol, started a market in front of their house. In the morning, she sold second-hand purses and handbags, and she sold produce and groceries until the evening. Once a week she and Sokol would load everything they could carry, and themselves, on one motorcycle to replenish their store.
She was not just a strong survivor of war and genocide, she was grateful and caring. She taught her family the importance of both strength and kindness. Even though she only attended school through the 8th grade, her children getting an education was extremely important to her. She sent all of her kids to college and made sure her grandchildren were doing well in school.
She came to the USA on Oct. 10, 2017 for her daughter, Sokol and her grandchildren Kareena and Daniel. She traveled all around the United States with George, Sokol and their family. She had a great time at Disneyland in California and seeing the lights in Las Vegas, NV, and the Grand Canyon in Arizona. She enjoyed seeing friends and family in San Antonio, Austin, Houston, and El Paso, TX. She went to visit her cousins in Oklahoma and California twice and even spent one day in Mexico.
She is survived by her son, Sodeth Huong and his wife Channa and their children Sochanvety and Somomea Huong of Phnom Penh, Cambodia; her daughter Sokol Kim and her children Kareena and Daniel Kim of Abilene, TX; her son Hengputhea Huong and his wife Nicole and their sons Sovitou and Sovanmuniboth Huong of Phnom Penh, Cambodia; her sister Kimsan Touch of Phnom Penh, Cambodia; and many nieces, nephews and cousins all over the world.
She was preceded in death by her mother and father, Chhung Touch and Vang Min; her brothers, Lak Touch and Yan Touch; her sister, Chamnan Touch; her husband Samang Huong; her son Piseth and daughter Pisal, her son-in-law George Kim.
