Karen Jenkins Chittum, 78, passed away Monday, November 20, 2023 in Abilene, Texas. A visitation will be 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM Wednesday, November 29, 2023 in the Elmwood Funeral Home's Family Center, 5750 Hwy 277 South, Abilene, Texas. A graveside service will be 11:00 AM Thursday, November 30, 2023 at the Texas State Veterans Cemetery at Abilene.

Born on November 28, 1944, in Fort Sumner, New Mexico, Karen was the beloved daughter of Theodore and Dorthy Jenkins. Karen's journey through life was marked by her unwavering commitment to family and her profound love for the Lord. She graduated from Abilene High School, setting the stage for a life filled with purpose and dedication to those she held dear.

On November 15, 1967, Karen married the love of her life, Larry Chittum, and their union thrived for an incredible 54 years. Together, they built a life grounded in love, resilience, and shared dreams. Karen was a pillar of strength and warmth in her role as a wife, and her devotion to Larry was evident to all who knew them. Her nurturing spirit extended beyond her marriage as she dedicated herself to the care of her family. Karen's selflessness knew no bounds, and her kindness left an indelible mark on the lives of those fortunate enough to be a part of her world.

Karen found joy in the simple pleasures of life, particularly in her passion for crafts and canning. Her skillful handiwork was celebrated at the Fair, where she entered her canned goods and emerged victorious on several occasions.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Larry Chittum; her mother, Dorothy Elliot; her father and stepmother, Ted and Dixie Jenkins; and sister, Melanie Oswald.

Karen is survived by her children, Dee Smith of Athens, Texas, Donna McAnally and husband Ken of Carlsbad New Mexico, Joan Bernal of Abilene, Texas, Mike Chittum and wife Christy of Pleasanton, Texas, and Terry Chittum of Abilene, Texas; her siblings, Scott Oswald, Robert Oswald, Susan Cummins, Bebbie Oswald, and David Jenkins; 11 grandchildren; and 22 great grandchildren.

Above all, Karen's heart belonged to her family, and her love for them knew no bounds. Her unwavering faith in the Lord provided her with strength and comfort throughout her life's journey. Karen's legacy is one of love, faith, and a deep commitment to the values that defined her.
