Julia R. Ortiz, our beloved Mother, Grandmother, passed away peacefully at her home October 13, 2025, surrounded by her loving family members.
Born in Edcouch, Texas, June 26, 1934, she was born to Petra and Petronilo Rodela.
Julia was a homemaker and dedicated herself to her children and grandchildren. She was known for her wonderful cooking, and she was delighted to teach her recipes to each new generation. She enjoyed gardening and crafting. She enjoyed spending time with family, nurturing a loving environment for her family. Julia was known for her kindness to everyone she met and her blessing to her children and everyone that was leaving out the door of visiting her. But above all, she was the heart of our family, always ready with warm hugs, listening ears and her smile.
She worked for the Abilene Independent School District and Abilene Day Nursery.
She devoted her life to Christ; she was a long-time member of Saint Vincent Pallotti Catholic Church. She had been a member of the Creative Ladies and ministered Holy Communion to the Home Bound
Julia is survived by her children, Elizabeth Nunez of Abilene, Tx, Simon Ortiz, Jr. (Angie) of Mansfield, Tx, Petra Ortiz (Joe) of Wilmer, Tx, Gloria Ortiz of Grand Prairie, Tx, Joe D. Ortiz (Lisa) of Grand Prairie, Tx; her sister, Florinda Perez of Mercedes, Tx; she was also a loving grandmother to 13 Grandchildren; 46 Great Grandchildren; 4 Great-Great Grandchildren.
Julie was preceded in death by her parents, Petronio and Petra Rodela; her older brothers, Jesus Rodela, Raymundo Rodela; her sister, Maria Felix Perez, her sister, Santiago Cantu, and her grandson, Hector Nunez.
Visitation will be held at Elmwood Funeral Home, 5750 Highway 277 S. on October 23, 2025, from 6:00 -7:00pm, with a Rosary starting at 7:00pm. A funeral mass service is scheduled for 10:00am, October 24, 2025, at Saint Vincent Pallotti Catholic Church, 2525 Westview Dr., with Father Tom Barley officiating. Burial at Elmwood Cemetery.

The family would like to thank Gentiva Hospice, Meals on Wheels and her close friends, Joe Olvera and Julie Olvera for always checking up on our mother numerous times.
Julia Ortiz made a lasting impression on many throughout her long life. She was a wonderful person and will be remembered for years to come.
