Jonathan Bryan Burrus, 49, of Abilene, Texas, took his final ride far too soon, leaving behind a big space in the hearts of everyone who knew and loved him.
Born and raised in Abilene, Jonathan was a proud graduate of Cooper High School and spent his working years with CWS, which became a part of his family. He finished out his career as a fuel hauler for Wes-T-Go fuels—clocking in early, working hard, and always ready with a good story or a laugh. He had a deep love for classic cars and trucks, especially the kind that made a little too much noise, and was a proud member of the C-10 Truck Club. If it had wheels and an engine, Jonathan was probably into it.
He loved the roar of a motorcycle, the crack of a bat at a Texas Rangers game, and a good day on the open road. More than anything, Jonathan loved his people—and his people loved him right back. Whether you were family, friend, or just someone lucky enough to cross his path, you were treated with kindness, honesty, and a sense of humor that could light up any room.
Jonathan attended Beltway Church, and his faith was an important part of who he was. He lived with heart and purpose, and he didn’t just talk about showing up for others, he did it.
He is survived by his mom, Mary Tate, and stepdad, Bill; his fiancée and love of his life, BethAnne Forrester; his sister, Amy Jackson and her husband, Graig; his niece, Tatem Jackson; and his nephew, Luke Cowart.
He was preceded in death by his father, Abe Burrus, and his grandparents, Wilford and Imogene Skiles, and Gene and Irene Burrus.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made in Jonathan’s honor to All Kind Animal Initiative or Stick Horses and Capes.
He’ll be remembered for his big laugh, his bigger heart, and the way he made life more fun just by being in it.
