John Scott

August 21, 1931 — January 29, 2008


John Scott, 76, passed away Tuesday, January 29, 2008 at a local hospital.

Visitation for family and friends will be Friday, February 1, 2008 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Elmwood Funeral Home, 5750 Hwy. 277 South. Funeral Service will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, February 2, 2008 at Elmwood Funeral Home Chapel; burial will follow in Elmwood Memorial Park, Garden of Ten Commandments with full military honors.

John was born on August 21, 1931 in Hazlehurst, MS to Ellison and Lee Etta Scott. He married Delphia M. Welch on July 21, 1952 in Hazlehurst, MS. They moved to Abilene in 1967. He served for 21 years in the United States Air Force and retired in 1972. He attended McMurry University and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree.

John enjoyed watching all sports, and his favorite team was whoever was winning, except for the Dallas Cowboys who he always cheered for; he also enjoyed a game of golf occasionally. He was a lot of fun with a great since of humor, who kept his family laughing. John especially enjoyed his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Delphia Scott; son, John A. Scott; five daughters and three sons-in-law, Wanda Catchings, Valerie McKinney, Angela and Warren Williams, Tracy and Scott Naber, and Paula and Phil Brown; one sister, Inez and husband, Charles Jenkins; six brothers and sisters-in-law, William and Delores Scott, Ellison and Josie Scott, Preston and Regina Scott, Walter and Rebecca Scott, Roger and Shirley Scott, and Arthur and Kathy Scott; 14 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister.

Serving as pallbearers are Kyle Scott, Kenyon Catchings, Warren Williams, Phillip Brown II, Scott Naber, Rodney King; honorary pallbearer, Chico Reyes.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to charity of choice.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Kalla, the staff at Texas Cancer Center, Dr. Selby, and the staff at Hendrick Medical Center and Abilene Regional Hospitals.
