Joe Mitchell

February 21, 1962 — November 2, 2023

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Joe Lee Mitchell, who left this world on November 2, 2023, in Dallas, Texas, at the age of 61. A visitation will be held 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM, Monday, November 6, 2023 in the Elmwood Funeral Home's Family Center. A graveside service will be 11:00 AM, Tuesday, November 7, 2023 at Midway Cemetery in Hodges, Texas.

Joe was born on February 21, 1962, in Abilene, Texas, to his loving parents, Billy and Jeanie Mitchell. He was a man of many talents and passions, with music holding a special place in his heart. From a young age, Joe discovered the enchantment of melodies and became a skilled musician, proficient in playing the guitar, keyboard, and piano. His musical talent shone brightly during his high school years when he was a cherished member of the barbershop quartet at Abilene High School. In 1979, Joe proudly graduated from Abilene High School, where he left a lasting impression with his kind and friendly nature. He cherished the memories and friendships formed during his time there.

But above all, Joe's greatest love was reserved for his family. He held a deep and unending affection for them. Despite his many accomplishments and the love he gave, Joe also faced the relentless struggle of mental illness for many years. His resilience and strength were a testament to his character.

He is preceded in death by his mother, Jeanie Mitchell.

Joe is survived by his father, Billy Mitchell; his children, Casey Lee Mitchell, Jacob Mitchell, and Sage Mitchell; his siblings, Cindy Hord and husband Cody, and Scotty Mitchell and wife Cathy; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and an aunt, and an uncle.

Joe Lee Mitchell will be fondly remembered as a talented musician, and a courageous soul who fought a long and challenging battle. He has left an indelible mark on the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing him.

His memory will live on in the love he shared with his family. We bid him farewell with heavy hearts, but we take solace in knowing that he has found peace. Joe will be deeply missed and never forgotten.
