It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Jimmie "Jim" New Sr., a beloved father, grandfather, brother, and friend, who left us on September 20, 2026, at the age of 80. A lifelong resident of Abilene, TX, Jimmie lived a full and meaningful life, woven into the fabric of his community and cherished by those who knew him.

Jim was born on May 22, 1946, to Gola and Willie New. He will be deeply missed by his sons, Jim New of Hawley (Brittany), Jacob Cheirs, daughters Sandie Garcia, Machell Mendez, Valerie Bowers (Gerald), and Beverly Whitehead (Buck). He was also a proud grandfather to 17 grandchildren and great-grandfather to 29 great-grandchildren. Jimmie was preceded in death by his parents, his beloved wife Valerie Kay New, and his sister Sharon Lets.

In his 40+ years as a truck driver, Jim enjoyed meeting new people and sharing stories from the road. He was a long-time member of the Southside Church of God, where he volunteered his time and skills in lawn maintenance, always lending a hand to fellow church members.

Jim had a kind soul and a big heart-he loved each and every one of his grandchildren, and the joy he found in the fair every time it rolled into town was contagious. His faith in God was unwavering, and he shared that love with everyone around him.

Family and friends can pay their respects during the visitation, which will be held on Wednesday, September 23, 2026, from 6:00-8:00 PM at Elmwood Funeral Home Chapel. A graveside service celebrating Jimmie's life will take place on Thursday, September 24, 2026, at 11:00 AM in the Garden of Ten Commandments at Elmwood Memorial Park, located at 5750 HWY 277 South, Abilene, TX 79606, where he will be laid to rest.
